At Minin 2008 Conference, held on 6-8 August in Santiago, we were honoured to welcome over 240 delegates from 16 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden and USA.
During three days participants had the opportunity to hear over 50 presentations discussing the technological innovation progress and knowledge available to help us make more effective decisions and use resources more efficiently. Chile is famous for its massive mining operations and our Friday plenary sessions were dedicated to the expansions and new projects in such complex operations as Chuquicamata, Andina, El Teniente, and Gaby of Codelco, Esperanza of Antofagasta Minerals and Los Bronces of Anglo American. Each of these projects have developed innovative answers to the challenges posed, for example, by underground mining at Chuquicamata, a major expansion at Andina, primary rock and deeper new level at El Teniente mine, automation answers to low-grade oxide ores at Gaby, audacious sea-water flotation at Esperanza and a creative major expansion at Los Bronces. We trust the participants benefitted by hearing about these projects, the endeavors undertaken and the solutions implemented.
We extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to everyone who made this event possible, and, in particular, to authors for their invaluable contributions; to technical and advisory committee members and technical reviewers for their efforts and counselling; to sponsors for their generous support and to plenary speakers for finding time to travel to Santiago and share their experience with us.
We hope to see you at the IV International Conference on Mining Innovation- Minin 2010. Please check our calendar at www.gecamin.cl for updates.
